WHICH PULLEY SHOULD I CHOOSE?
This question used to be an easy one . . . there were only two pulleys to choose from . . .a corner pulley or a hold down pulley! Now, as you will see, there is a choice to be made as to the type of pulley to be used and a choice of the materials from which the pulley is constructed. We are pleased to announce, due to repeated requests, that we have resumed making the orange UHMW (Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) Hold Down pulley with wood bases. The UHMW pulley and wood base makes for a practically indestructible unit. UHMW is a highly abrasion resistant material that is often used in soft faced hammers and as a lining for log chutes. The hardwood bases are subject to marking and string burns when the string comes in contact with them. However, they do resist serious string cuts that require the base(s) to be replaced. The trade-off is that they are considerably more expensive. The red nylon pulleys should satisfy all but the most demanding field trial conditions. The main complaint, that we at INJOY have heard from our customers, is that if the string comes in contact with the nylon base of a hold down or box pulley used as a hold down it can cut though the nylon to such a degree that the base needs to be replaced. The nylon bases now have an aluminum wear strip inserted in them which prevents most of the string cut damage experienced in the past. All INJOY pulleys are constructed using a stainless steel center, two sealed ball bearings and a base with 8” (20.3 cm) spikes for staking the pulleys to the ground.
